Humane Education
At Zeus Nakulu Dog Shelter, we believe that education is key to creating a more compassionate future for animals in Bhutan. Our humane education programs are designed to combat stereotypes, promote fostering and adoption, and foster a new generation of animal lovers.
Our Initiatives
- Public Education Classes:
- Target Audience: We focus on middle-school students, an age group that is highly impressionable and capable of driving change in their communities.
- Combating Stereotypes: Our classes address and dispel common misconceptions about animals, particularly Bhutan’s native breed, the Pariah Dog, which is often misunderstood as wild and dangerous.
- Promoting Compassion: We teach students about the importance of kindness, respect, and humane treatment of animals, emphasizing the benefits of fostering and adoption.
- Fostering and Adoption:
- Next Generation of Animal Lovers: By instilling these values early on, we aim to create a generation that is more likely to foster and adopt animals, reducing the number of strays and improving animal welfare overall.
- Cruelty Prevention:
- Full-Time Cruelty Officer: We employ a dedicated cruelty officer who works to prevent and address animal abuse.
- Counseling Abusers: The cruelty officer provides counseling to individuals who have abused animals, helping them understand the impact of their actions and encouraging more compassionate behavior.
- Law Enforcement Referrals: In cases where counseling is not sufficient, our officer refers serious animal abuse cases to law enforcement to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
- Full-Time Cruelty Officer: We employ a dedicated cruelty officer who works to prevent and address animal abuse.
