At Zeus Nakulu Dog Shelter, our mission is to give stray animals a better life in Bhutan, whether that means finding them a loving adoptive home or providing them with the skills and resources they need to survive on the streets.
Our Approach
- Adoption Efforts:
- Loving Homes: We work tirelessly to match stray animals with loving families, giving them the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Education and Awareness: We strive to educate the local population about the true nature of Bhutan’s native breed, the “Pariah Dog”. Despite their smart and social personalities, these dogs are often misunderstood as wild and dangerous, leading to reluctance in adoption. By raising awareness, we aim to change this perception and increase adoption rates.
- Release Programs:
- Survival Skills: For animals that are not adopted, we focus on equipping them with the skills they need to survive and thrive on the streets.
- Managed Release: We conduct managed release programs where animals are returned to their familiar environments but with better chances of survival due to medical care, vaccination, and, when necessary, spay and neuter surgeries to prevent overpopulation.
The Pariah Dog Misunderstanding
- Smart and Social: Bhutan’s native Pariah Dogs are highly intelligent and have social personalities that make them excellent companions.
- Changing Perceptions: These dogs are often wrongly perceived as wild and dangerous. Our goal is to change this misconception through education and positive experiences, encouraging more people to consider adopting these wonderful animals.

- Open your home and heart to a stray animal. Visit our shelter to meet the dogs and cats looking for their forever homes.
- Support:
- Donate: Your contributions help us provide medical care, food, and shelter for the animals.
- Volunteer: Spend time with the animals, help with their care, and assist in our outreach programs.

- Spread the word about the true nature of the Pariah Dog and the importance of adopting rather than buying pets.
